Delicious Margaritas

Distilled from the fermented juice of the blue agave, a plant found in Mexico, tequila is the main ingredient in the delicious, magnificent margarita. No one knows for sure who invented the margarita though it appeared sometime during the mid to late 1930s.

The earliest alleged creator is barman Willie. The story goes that he invented the margarita in Matamoros at a restaurant called Los Dos Republicas for a woman named Marguerite Hemery.The margarita also could have been invented by Danny Negrete in 1936 as a wedding present for his future sister-in-law, Margarita. Another Danny, Danny Herrera--a renowned Mexican bartender-- supposedly created the drink for his beloved, Marjorie King, an American actress because she couldn't stand the taste of pure tequila. Jose Cuervo Margarita Mix gives credit for the margarita to Rita De La Rosa, showgirl and bartender. A man named Enrique Bastate Gutierrez claims he invented the drink as a homage to Rita Hayworth--real name Margarita Cansino. And those are just a few of the stories.
